Match officials invited to buy Ref Stop’s Rainbow Lanyard to support Football v Homophobia

Lanyard with clip is worn on wrist and whistle can be attached; costs just £3.79 with 100% of sale proceeds going to FvH, which holds its annual Month of Action in February…

Referees and match officials are being encouraged to buy a special Ref Stop Rainbow Lanyard and support the Football v Homophobia campaign.

Several football officials have already snapped up the lanyard, which is worn on the wrist and comes with a clip which can be used to attach a whistle.

The colourful striped design is intended to reflect allyship and a commitment to inclusivity.

Revenue generated from sales of the lanyards will be donated to the Football v Homophobia campaign, which holds its annual Month of Action in February 2025.

The Ref Stop and FvH are partnering up on the initiative and inviting officials at all levels of football to purchase a lanyard and wear it during matches.

The aim is to create conversations through visibility that reflect referees’ commitment to equality, fair play and the fight against all forms of prejudice.

FvH campaign director Lou Englefield said: “We’re hugely grateful to The Ref Stop for their support and we look forward to seeing match officials everywhere using the lanyard.

“It’s a small but practical piece of kit that carries a powerful and recognisable symbol of allyship.”
