Dear FA,

  1. Open with your name and, if you have one, your connection to football.

For example: My name is [insert name] and I play for / I am a committee member of / I work for / I am a supporter of…

  1. Why you’re writing: to oppose the May 1 policy change that excludes trans women from playing in FA-regulated football matches.

It’s a good idea here to include something about how this policy makes you feel.

E.g: I am appalled/devastated/shocked/angered by the news that the FA….

  1. Urge the FA to reconsider their policy change and not to exclude trans women.
  2. Give your reasoning. Some suggested reasons are:
  • The Supreme Court ruling upholds the Equality Act 2010 and no new legal requirements have been made for sports governing bodies regarding trans-exclusion.
  • The FA is the largest governing body of sport in the UK and should have the capacity to stand up to threats from anti-trans campaigners
  • Scientific studies show that trans women who have undergone HRT do not have a competitive advantage over cis women.
  • The policy goes against the FA’s own commitments to equality, diversity and
  • inclusion.
  • Concerns around how the policy will be enforced, with the policing of both trans and cis women’s bodies (including safeguarding for children).

We encourage you to elaborate on the points above and you’re welcome to include further reasons.

  1. Condemn the FA bending to the pressure of culture wars, which make the FA an outlier in world football.

Again, this could be a good place to include how this makes you feel.

E.g: I am disappointed/disgusted by the cowardice/weakness of the FA…

If you have experience of anti-trans campaign groups affecting you as a player, fan or official, please share this.

E.g: As a woman who plays football, I have felt threatened by anti-trans campaigners who…

  1. Finish with clear calls on the FA. These could include:
  • Reverse the decision to change policy.
  • Clarify how such a policy would be enforced.
  • Share what specific legal advice they received which underpinned this decision.

Sign off with your name and, if appropriate, the organisation or football team you represent.
