Fundraising Appeal
The Pride Gamers Club provides a home for LBTQ people who have faced discrimination in football in Uganda, whilst giving them an opportunity to play the sport they love.
As part of the Tomorrow Women In Sports Foundation (TWISF), a Ugandan NGO, the project will also advocate for inclusion, diversity, and equality in sports in Uganda.
Both male and female homosexual activity is illegal, LGBT people continue to face major discrimination in Uganda, actively encouraged by political and religious leaders. Violent and brutal attacks against LGBT people are common, often performed by state officials. Households headed by same-sex couples are not eligible for the same legal protections available to opposite-sex couples. Same-sex marriage has been constitutionally banned since 2005.
Discrimination in Uganda can result in a loss of livelihood and loss of home. Tomorrow Women In Sports Foundation wants to deal with this in relation to football, providing food, accommodation and playing opportunities for young lesbian, bi, trans and queer footballers.
